I'm both French and British. I've always lived in France and I now live in Chaumont (Haute-Marne), roughly two hours from Paris (heading East). My English roots
lie
in Sussex (Rye, Hastings). I write and sing my own songs; this page is just meant to show demos of the latest ones. I used to write in French, but lately I have
enjoyed coming
back to English. 'Hope you'll visit this page now and then to see what's new, G.M.

"Their eyes they spoke"
(Grégory MENDOUSSE)
(November 2016)

You could not say
Why the sky turns grey
Why suddenly birds
Whistle pointless words

It’s just one of those days

You could not say
Why hopes have flown away
Leaving you with a chill
That drags you down the hill

It’s just one of those days
When clouds rise once again
Clouds come sprinkle the snow

Come sprinkle the rain

You could not say
Why now why today
When you felt at last
At peace with the past

It’s just one of those days

You could not say
How long they’re here to stay
They sneaked under the door
And they’ll stay as before

Clouds they let you forget
They hide somewhere below
They grow until they strike
They come and they go

It’s just one of those days
When clouds rise once again
Clouds come sprinkle the snow
Come sprinkle the rain

Eyes wide open that could not see
That looked around somewhat empty
His eyes were white he kept smiling
Peace in his words no complaining

His body spoke of war and pain
Mines going off a life insane
The guns the smoke the fields of wire
Head down hiding under cross fire

His eyes they spoke

Eyes on her son proud and loving
Tired but thankful there beside him
Her eyes they spoke of sad relief
The miles had spread loss and grief

The cold the heat run for shelter
Baby brother died against her
Crying her love my baby rest
Sleep forever heart on my chest

Her eyes they spoke

Eyes upon them recalling fear
Such a struggle to bring them here
Had done his best though he could not
Forgive himself some had been shot

Exhausted arms legs moving on
Where had the strength even come from
The weight of life the urge to save
Close ones and whoever might wave

His eyes they spoke

There they sat with eyes so deep
That spoke the roads the hills so steep
Had seen it all from worse to worse
Finally made it through the curse

Had walked so far to cut the rope
At last some peace awakening hope
Still together though not all there
Love in their eyes spread everywhere

Their eyes they spoke
They spoke of hope
